Friends of Coronado Center Library

Who are the Friends?

The Friends of the Coronado Center Library is a volunteer, not-for-profit organization founded in 2009 by Hot Springs Village property owners who love books and the library.

Our purpose is to stimulate public interest in the Coronado Center Library, purchase library materials not in the POA operating budget, and support cultural and educational endeavors in the Hot Springs Village area through story hours for children, literary events for adults, and reading programs for adults and children.

FOCCL holds regular literary events featuring local authors reading from their work and hosts an ongoing book club which meets monthly in the library.

Our popular Trivia Nights bring together teams of trivia buffs from all over the Village for a fun-filled evening, while raising valuable funds.

FOCCL also raises funds through book sales one or two times a year. Thanks to generous donations received year round, we are able to offer a wide selection of hardcover and paperback books in a variety of genres, as well as nonfiction, children's literature, books on CD and DVDs of movies.

The Coronado Center is located at 150 Ponderosa Lane. For more information, call 922-3555.

Trivia Night: Fun fundraiser for Coronado Center Library

"Trivia Night is a ton of fun, with a little healthy competition thrown in," said Jane Browning, president of Friends of the Coronado Center Library (FOCCL), organizers of the event. "It's a chance to test your memory of matters significant and ridiculous, all within the safety of an eight-person team. What you can't recall, your other team members can! Plus, there will be door prizes and a big book give-away."

Teams consist of eight players and the cost is $10 per player. Clubs, churches, neighborhoods, businesses and buddies are encouraged to create teams, but singles, couples and other size groups are welcome to register and will be placed on teams. Registration forms are available at the Coronado Center Library, 150 Ponderosa Lane. Walk-ins are welcome. Spectators are welcome, for a $5 fee.

Coronado Center doesn't allow alcoholic beverages to be brought in, so the tailgates can't include a bottle of wine, said Browning, but a cash bar will be available. There will be free popcorn and iced tea throughout the evening.

Trivia Night is held twice a year and is FOCCL's biggest fundraising event. Last year's efforts raised over $2600 to support the library. FOCCL funds have been used to buy shelving, audio books, DVDs, music CDs and large-print books, popular items not covered by the POA's library budget. FOCCL also raises funds through book sales held in the spring and fall.

The library continues to be one of the great success stories among Village amenities with over 100 patrons coming to the library on an average day. FOCCL was founded in 2009 to increase public interest in the library and to raise funds to purchase materials not in the POA operating budget.
